Day 1: Loosen Tight Hips & Shake 'Em

Monday, April 13th

Start the week off stretching your IT band, which helps with bending your knees and flexing your hips! Then toss those hips side to side to get that extra stretch, and add a powerful *pop* to your movement (3:03 mins)

Day 2: Ease Lower Back Pain & Wind Your Waist

Tuesday, April 14th

For Day 2, pelvic tilts will help build mobility in your pelvis and strengthen your isolations. Then you can stir your hips like curry, helping to alleviate lower back aches—including back spasms—and dance in whatever position you prefer! (5:25 mins)

Day 3: Build Your Glutes & Pop It Out 

Wednesday, April 15th

On Day 3, we'll be building up the gluteus medius, which stabilizes your hips and pelvis, and helps you balance on one leg when you're walking. Then we'll take that stretch into a wide squat (standing, sitting, or lying down) and drop it like it's hot! (3:14 mins)

Day 4: Stabilize Your Pelvis & Hit Every Beat

Thursday, April 16th

By Day 4 you'll be ready to strengthen some of the other deep hip muscles in addition the gluteus medius. This helps with coordination, posture, and balance. Then we'll add a little spice to your hip lifts so you can play with new beats and take them into a circle! (5:01 mins)

Day 5: So Long Sciatica...Bring On the Hip Twists!

Friday, April 16th

On Day 5 you'll be working the piriformis muscle, which is largely responsible for sciatic pain. The figure 4 stretch will help keep the pain away...and the hip twists that you'll do after? Those are the cherry on top! (4:30 mins)

Dr. Folden is a native of Detroit, MI with a Bachelor of Science and Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Grand Valley State University in Allendale, MI. Now, a North Carolina licensed physical therapist and Anti-diet Health & Body Image Coach, Dr. Folden has more than eighteen years of experience in the health & wellness field.

 

As a body positive women’s health expert and Health at Every Size®️ (HAES®️) ambassador, Dr. Folden assists clients seeking healthier lifestyles. Her weight-neutral approach encourages intuitive eating, body acceptance and breaking up with toxic diet culture.

Dr. Lisa is a mom of three, published author and speaker whose goal is to see as many people as possible recovering from injury and living their best lives without ever worrying about their weight!

About Nurjahan

 

Nurjahan's mom and aunties taught her belly dance as a source of empowerment and healing as soon as she could walk. It's been passed down that way in East Africa for generations.  

 

She dreamed of sharing their unique practice with the world—until a bullet stopped her in her tracks. She was shot in the leg in a random attack at age 21.

 

Her recovery was grueling, and even though she thought her dancing days were over, it was belly dance — with significant accommodations — that helped her get back on her feet again.

 

Now she shares their practice as both a skillful, joyful dance, and as a way to rebuild passion, strength, and resilience—no matter what you've survived.
